Welcome to MouPaSa’s website.

History:

MouPaSa is not really a choir in the classical sense, but neither really only a band playing music. It is rather the result of some people trying to make an alternative kind of choir. A different suggestion in the field of  amateur music, creation and joy.

It started in the beginning of the 80ies by members of a teachers organisation and  a cultural club and in 1994 finally even got a name, MouPaSa (Mousiki Parea Samou = Musical Company of Samos).

Every year we present a new program with a special theme. The subjects have been many and various during the years. Here are some examples:

  •        Remembrance-dates:

  1.    70 years after the Catastrophe of Asia Minor in 1922, when the Greeks had to leave the present Turkish coast,

  2.    50 years after the end of Second World War, which was remembered by singing songs of peace.

  •      Poets and composers :

  1.    Nikos Gatsos,

  2.    Christos Leondis with his music of F.G.Lorcas texts,

  3.    Dionyssis Savopoulos,

  4.    10 Troubadours,

  5.    10 more Troubadours

  •        Various other themes :

  1.    Songs of the Sea,

  2.    The Zeimbekiko(a special rhythm)-songs,

  3.    Modern Greek Songs

  4.    Music we like

  5.    Whatever I search

During the years new members have joined the group and old ones have left, but there is still a certain loyalty to the original idea: To sing and play Greek songs with a common theme, often in combination with poetry, historical or biographic references, photos or drawings etc.

The Musical Friends of Samos now consists of app. 15 persons spending their spare time during winter trying to find the main idea of the year and make it performable. When springtime comes, we are ready to show the results of our efforts in towns and villages of Samos. We have also visited other Greek islands and neighboring Turkey as well as  Italy.
